For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Today we consider Chapter 25.*

Today’s verses speak to humility….or a lack thereof.

Key Verses in Chapter 25:

v.6-7  Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among great men; it is better for him to say to you, “Come up here,” than for him to humiliate you before a nobleman.

Don’t think so much of yourself that you assume a place of importance; it would be humiliating to be asked to move to a place of lesser import. But if you seek a more humble place for yourself, you may be pleasantly surprised by being asked to move to a place of greater prominence.

v.27  It is not good to eat too much honey, not is it honorable to seeks one’s own honor.

If you eat too much honey, you’ll be sick to your stomach. And if you’re conceited, you’ll make everyone else sick to theirs!

2 Timothy 3:1-5 warns “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God – having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.” [emphasis mine]

My Prayer

Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.

Guide me in searching the recesses of my heart. Where I have let my ego take control, reveal it to me so that I may truly repent of it.  Use Your refining fire to remove any pride of self, and replace it with a humble spirit within me. Then help me apply Your Truths to bring real and lasting transformation in my life. I know that of myself, I am nothing; it is only through the redeeming blood of  Jesus Christ that I have been made holy.

Help me to live out that holiness, Father, that my life may be a reflection of You.

I pray these things in the Name of Jesus…
