For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Today let’s look at Chapter 16.*
Today’s verses all speak to planning.
Key Verses in Chapter 16:
v. 1. To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue.
We can prepare what we want to say, but if it’s not what God wants us to say – or if we are at a loss for words – the Holy Spirit will put God’s words in our mouth. “…do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.” – Luke 12:11-12.
v.2. All a man’s ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
We try to convince ourselves what we want is right…but that’s often self-deceiving. God looks into our heart and sees our true motivation. “Desires of the flesh” are never innocent.
v.3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do and your plans will succeed.
If we align our plans with God’s will, we will succeed. But if we try to follow our own will, we are doomed to fail.must totally commit ourselves in the sense of both total trust and submission to the will of God. He will fulfill your righteous plans.
v.4 The LORD works out everything for His own ends….
Everyone – righteous and wicked – are subservient to God’s will. Man’s rebellion cannot change God’s plans….it only gives Him an occasion for demonstrating His power, justice, longsuffering, and glory.
v.9 In his heart a man plans his course, bu the LORD determines his steps.
We may plan what we want to do, but God decides whether it will happen or not. He will fulfill His purposes, regardless of our choices.
v.25 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.
One of the most dangerous things we can try to do is whatever feels good to us. The desires of the flesh always lead to sin and destruction.
Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.
Father, You are Sovereign above all else! Give me an obedient heart that wants only to do Your will. Tune my heart to hear Your voice, and give me clarity as to each next step. I commit my plans to You; let them be pleasing in Your sight.
May everything I do glorify Your Name, Father.
In Jesus’ Name…
