For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Today we’ll look at Chapter 14*.
Today we’re going to be focusing on planning and decision-making.
Key Verses in Chapter 14:
v.8 The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but the folly of fools is deception.
Don’t worry….just be thoughtful about what you do. It is important to approach your planning and goals prayerfully; don’t rush into anything foolishly!
v.12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end, it leads to death.
This is all about man’s wisdom v. God’s wisdom. New Age teaching tells us if it feels good, do it. But Christians know the desires of the flesh often lead to destruction and heartache. Don’t trust your own wisdom; seek God’s counsel and trust His direction.
v. 15 A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps.
We can’t just believe everything we read, or everything someone says. We have to weigh that against what God tells us in His Word…and then pray for His wisdom before moving forward.
v.23 All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
There really is no shortcut to success; hard work is always the better choice. It may not always bring financial gain, but you will always have the satisfaction of having done your best….and God will bless your obedience.
Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.
Help me to always be thoughtful in my planning and goal-setting. Remind me to first seek Your Word for counsel and direction. Give me an open mind for receiving Your Holy Spirit’s guidance, and a grow in me an obedient heart.
I don’t want take shortcuts through enemy territory. I want to walk on the path You set before me, doing the work required of me. I know I can do all things through Your power, and I want the satisfaction of a job well done!
Give me the resources I need – and connect me with the people who are best able to help me accomplish my goals – so that my work brings glory to Your Name, Father. I know You are able to provide everything I need to do the work You have purposed me for. I trust Your will. May Your will be done.
In Jesus’ Name…
