For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Today let’s look at Chapter 9*.

Key Verses in Chapter 9:

v.1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars.

7: This may refer to spiritual completeness, or perhaps the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

v.3  …she calls from the highest point of the city.

v.14  She sits at the door of her house, on a seat at the highest point of the city, calling out…

Wisdom and Folly – God and Satan – both call out from the highest point, where they are easily seen and heard. It is our choice whom we will follow.

v.2 S he has slaughtered her beasts; she has mixed her wine…

v.6  “Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.”

Wisdom/God prepares a feast and extends her/His invitation not only to the wealthy but to the simple.

v.17  “Stolen water is sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.”

Folly/Satan also calls out to the simple, but offers little of sustenance; only stolen water and bread. Unfortunately, mankind often finds forbidden delights sweeter.

v.11  For by me your days will be multiplied, and years will be added to your life.

Wisdom/God offers life.

v. 18 But he does not know that the dead are there, that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.

Folly/Satan hides the fact that her/his house is a house of death.

v. 12 If you are wise, you are wise for yourself; if you scoff, you alone will bear it.

It is our responsibility to seek out the wisdom God offers..and it is to our own detriment if we choose to reject God.

My Prayer

Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.

Father, give me a heart that seeks out Your wisdom above all else. Protect me from enemy enticement. Sometimes the call of Folly sounds good or easy, but I know it would only last for a moment. It is Your wisdom that brings Life…here and for all eternity!

Help me to receive Your instruction and rebuke with a grateful heart, that it would increase my wisdom and understanding of You.

I pray these things in Jesus’ Holy Name….

 Amen.
