For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Let’s look at Chapter 8*.

Key Verses in Chapter 8:

v.5  You who are simple, gain prudence…

v.12  I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence….

Prudence: being disciplined by use of reason; being wise in practical affairs; being cautious with regard to danger or risk; being skillful in the management of resources.

v.6   …I open my lips to speak what is right.

v.7   My mouth speaks what is true…

v.8  All of the words of my mouth are just…

Wisdom is right and true and just; it will not lead you astray.

v.10-11  Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.

v.18  With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.

v.19  My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.

v.21  …bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.

v.14  Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power.

Wisdom is more valuable than material wealth. Wisdom is real power.

v.22  The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His work…

v.23  …before the world began.

v.24  When there were no oceans, I was given birth…

v.25  …before the hills, I was given birth,

v.27  I was there when He set the heavens in place…

v.30  Then I was the craftsman at His side.

God possessed wisdom before He created anything…..hence the term “intelligent design.”

v.32  …blessed are those who keep my ways.

v.34  Blessed is the man who listens to me…

v.35  For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.

v.36  But whoever fails to find me harms himself…

Those who seek wisdom will find blessing and favor from the LORD, but he who ignores it does so to his own detriment.

My Prayer

Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.

Help me to be prudent in managing my resources. Your wisdom was before all of creation, and I know it to be right and true; more valuable than gold!  Speak to me clearly, Father, and help me to obey Your instruction without question, that I may find favor in Your eyes. Keep me from making irresponsible choices or taking unnecessary risks that would only bring me harm.

In Jesus’ Name….

 Amen.
