For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Today we’ll pray through Chapter 7*.

Key Verses in Chapter 7:

v.7 I saw among the simple,

“Simple” here refers to those with no purpose. Without direction, we are vulnerable to temptation and easily led astray.

v.8 …walking along in the direction of her house

Sometimes we’re not purposefully walking into sin….but we’re certainly wandering in its direction. 🙁

v.10-21 …with crafty intent…she kissed him….brazen..looked for you…come…with persuasive words…with her smooth talk

v.22  All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter,

These are the strategies of the enemy. Temptation can be subtle or bold; you can walk into it, or it can come right at you. Sometimes we dive willingly into sin….and sometimes we just make one poor choice after another and find ourselves in the thick of it. Never forget that Satan is on the prowl. Be prepared to resist his temptations! “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith…” – 1 Peter 5:8-9

v.25 Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths.

Notice that word “let”? Everything we do is a choice, so we need to be mindful about what temptations we allow into our lives. That includes what books we read, what TV or movies we watch, what internet sites we visit, and what friends we keep. Let’s choose wisely, gfs!

My Prayer

Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.

I surrender my life to You, Father. Give me a real sense of purpose. Give me clarity as to what You would have me do today that will bring You glory….then show me the next thing, and the next.

I am strong only in Your power, Father, so gird me each day with Your full armor that I may stand firm against the devil’s schemes. Help me to pray continually, and to be alert, for I know my struggle isn’t against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil (Eph. 6:10-18).

I pray these things in the powerful Name of Jesus….
