For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Today we’ll pray through Chapter 4*.

Key Verses in Chapter 4:

v.7  Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.

v.14-15 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked…Avoid it, do not travel on it; turn from it and go on your way.

v.23  Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

v.24  Put away perversity from your mouth; keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

Perversity is using for evil something that God created as good. Every good thing that God created, Satan twists ; he perverts it. Our mouths were created to praise God, to encourage each other, and to speak truth (Psalm 19:14; 120:2; 141:3; Proverbs 12:22); not for cursing, gossip, coarse jokes, or lying (Proverbs 10:18; 12:22; 16:27; Ephesians 5:4).

Jesus made it clear that perversion is a matter of the heart: “What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean.’” (Matthew 15:11)

v.27 Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

My Prayer

Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.

I understand that my pursuit of wisdom is a daily process. Today, and every day, I choose to follow Your teachings – regardless of the cost – because wisdom is supreme. Your wisdom is my highest priority!

Help me keep my eyes fixed on my goal: A life that glorifies You. Set clear boundaries for me, Father, and help me turn away from evil so I don’t swerve willingly into the enemy’s path.

Above all else, guard my heart “for it is the wellspring of life.” Help me resist Satan’s attempts to lure me into perverse speech, such as gossip or cursing or lying. Let the words of my mouth only be glorifying to You.

I pray these things in the powerful Name of Jesus….
