For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. Let’s look at Chapter 3*.
Key Verses in Chapter 3:
Promises of a long, healthy life and prosperity:
v.3 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.
v.8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
v.9-10 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
v.16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.
v.18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;
v.22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.
Promises of blessings:
v.4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
v.14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies;
v.33-34 The LORD’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the righteous. He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.
Warning against pride:
v.5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
v.7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
Accept God’s discipline:
v.11-12 My son, do not despise the LORD’s discipline and do not resent His rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those He loves, as a father the son he delights in.
Promise of peace:
v.17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.
v.26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.
Command for generosity:
Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. - Proverbs 3:27 NIV, c1978 Click To Tweet
v.27-28 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, “Come back later; I’ll give it tomorrow” – when you now have it with you.
Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.
In Proverbs 3, You give numerous promises of life, good health, and prosperity if I embrace Your wisdom and understanding. Help me to live out Your teachings that I may live a long and rich life. I know there’s no guarantee of material wealth, but the riches You promise to the righteous are more precious than rubies; nothing compares to them! Every blessing I have is a gift from You; channel Your abundance through me in a manner that brings glory to Your Name. Grow in me a Jesus heart that desires to give generously without hesitation, that others will feel Your grace and love through me.
Finally, Father, reveal to me where I hold onto foolish pride and help me to repent of it. Remove it so there is nothing left in my life that could bring shame to Your Name. I accept Your discipline as a demonstration of Your love, for I know that when I trust in my own wisdom, it fails me…but when I trust in Yours, You will set me on a path of peace. I trust Your will. May Your will be done.
I pray these things in Jesus’ Name…
