For the month of May, we will be Praying Through The Proverbs. Unlike a Bible study, we will simply pray a few key Scriptures each day. We’ll concentrate on how these verses apply to our individual lives, and ask God to reveal to us if there is anything specific we need to repent of or work on. We begin with Chapter 1*.

Key Verses in Chapter 1:

v.3 for acquiring a disciplined and prudent life; doing what is right and just and fair;

v.7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.

  • “Fear of the LORD” can be thought of as a loving reverence that includes submission to His Lordship and the commands of His Word.

v. 23 If you had responded to My rebuke, I would have poured out My Heart to you, and made My thoughts known to you.

  • Wisdom is God’s mind revealed.
  • Jesus was Wisdom personified.
  • “My Heart” is the Holy Spirit; the Communicator of God’s Wisdom.

v.31 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them;

v.33 but whoever listens to Me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.

My Prayer

Father God, I humbly enter this, my secret place, and acknowledge I am in the Presence of the One True God. Thank You for meeting me here. Forgive me so I can stand in Your Presence clean and holy.

In Proverbs 1, You  tell me “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,” so today I surrender my life again to Your Lordship and the commands of Your Word. I know there are many times I have not responded to Your rebuke, cutting myself off from the wisdom Your Holy Spirit longs to pour into me. I am only hurting myself when I let pride keep me from listening and learning, so I repent of my pride. Open my heart and my mind to receive what You would have me learn today, and grow in me a desire to be disciplined in “doing what is right and just and fair.”

I claim Your promise that “whoever listens to Me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.” I know that doesn’t mean my journey will always be smooth; it simply means I believe You are faithful to walk with me, guiding me in the right way to go. Protect me from enemy influence, and help me to choose wisely and not give in to the enticement of fools. I choose Your will, Father, for I trust Your will. May Your will be done…and may Your Name be glorified through me.

I pray these things in the powerful Name of Jesus…

Amen.
